Fire Maple FMS-X3 Cooking System Full Review
The Fire Maple Fixed FMS-X3 Star 3 stove is made of materials that feel high quality and durable, which might surprise some, given its low price. In comparison to similar all-in-one stove systems, it’s a similar size and weight, with 128mm × 173mm, and 511g without the gas canister.
Each and every component of the stove fit well together. This nesting design is always welcome to see in such as shoe, especially when packing the system away and heading back out on the trail. The bowl is slightly small for eating from and is awkward to drink out of. Thus, we found that removing it meant we could fit a larger gas canister into space, which was practical in both having the extra fuel and stabilizing the stove on uneven ground or in windy weather.
The set up is similar to most stoves of this type. The gas canister fits onto the burn, with the pot locking onto the top. The lid can be tricky to attach to the pot, and it is better if you do it before attaching it to the burner.
The pot’s handle is excellent and easily one of the best compared to similar camp cooking systems. It might feel like it is top-heavy when you unpack the unit, however When placed on the included fuel canister stand, the whole cooking system balances out perfectly.
Lighting the stove is made simple with the Piezo Igniter, and adjustments are also quickly done using the fuel regulator, and you get the ability to simmer and boil. You will be able to boil water in about 3 minutes; when compared to other similar stoves, the boil time is slighter longer, but we are talking a few seconds here and there. That being said, the flame is very reliable and will stand up well when exposed to the wind.
A Great Alternative To Jetboil
Our Final Thoughts
The Fire Maple Fixed Star 3 FMS-X3 is an excellent all-in-one stove system for solo or two-person use. It has all the features of its more expensive rivals at a much lower price, although boil times are longer. The stove’s ability to simmer offers added versatility than just boiling water; therefore, it is perfect if you’re like variety in your hiking meals. In conclusion, this stove is the right choice for anyone going on a multi-day trekking adventure and wants to save some money on their camp cooking system.
